The robust outsoles are easy to maintain and can withstand quite a bit. Allow us to elaborate on their properties and story.

Danish design tradition with a modern twist

The Danish design tradition is recognized all over the world, as it has a clear philosophy behind it. Using the materials from nature in a way that isn’t just aesthetically pleasing, but also has function and durability. We produce our slippers in a modern setting while adhering to the traditional craftsmanship, which gives us a unique product that has loyal fans all around the world.

The Danish design tradition goes in line with glerups’ way of thinking. Our slippers are made with a wool blend with many properties that make people everywhere fall in love with the discreet design and great comfort. The colours of the slippers are inspired by Nordic nature, such as grey, green, black and sea blue, which also makes them fit right into any wardrobe.

They are multifaceted in usage – some use them for gardening, or for a quick walk into town. Others have them packed in their backpack while hiking, as they are perfect for your feet after a long day of walking in a pair of sneakers. Some take them, when they go glamping, as they are the perfect evening attire for when you gather around a bonfire and hang out with friends and loved ones. As they can be used as both outdoor and indoor slippers, they are also perfect for wearing them at the office or the studio, to keep you feeling as good as possible during the day, whatever it contains.

100% wool for the best comfort

Not only are these slippers comfortable to wear, they stay comfortable due to the unique blend of wool used. Our wool blend is made with wool from Danish Gotland sheep and wool from New Zealand and this mix is close to magical. As the fibres in the wool absorb excess humidity, your feet will feel fresh and cool, when the weather is warm, but they will also keep your feet warm on colder days. Furthermore, the fibres of this wool blend have a unique property – they are of the same molecular structure as the human skin, which means they will not cause any irritation to the skin. In this way, your feet will both stay comfortable and healthy, when compared to other slippers made with other materials. You can easily keep your glerups outdoor slippers fresh by just putting them outside for a while. They also absorb any odour that might come from your feet and this will also go away after a while out in the fresh air. All in all, these slippers aren’t meant to just last a season and then be replaced – they are made to last longer than your average slipper and this can be easily done. For more information on how to keep your slippers fresh and maintain them, read more here.

There are several benefits to wearing wool all year round. As mentioned above, it keeps you cool when it’s warm, and warm when it’s cold. Keeping you feeling fresh as it is both breathable and absorbs moisture and odour, but also keeping you feeling comfortable, while being good to nature as it is a natural product. All these benefits are found in a pair of glerups outdoor slippers.

Experience the meaning of “hygge”

The Danish language is pretty straight forward – that being said, there is a word that doesn’t easily translate. The word is “hygge” and the closest thing in the English language is “cosiness”, but it still doesn’t quite cover it. You see, hygge can be many things, depending on which Dane you talk to. The most common answer to what hygge means, is when you are utmost relaxed, comfortable and doing something alone or together with someone you care about. It can range from a walk in the woods, to playing a game, eating or just sitting around in a nice, relaxing setting, talking or simply just being together. Putting on a pair of glerups outdoor slippers will give your feet an instant hygge-feel and will elevate your time of unwinding. This is our way to try to spread the concept of hygge all around the world.

The story of glerups

It all started when Nanny Glerup took a class in making felted slippers, adhering to the trend that was blossoming in Europe at the time; being able to produce as much of your daily needs as possible by yourself. She wanted to make a pair of slippers for her husband, Ove, for when they would enjoy a relaxing time in their living room. Something, he would be comfortable with and would help him unwind after a long day. Ove loved them and soon he could be seen wearing them everywhere he went. Friends and family started noticing and soon, Nanny was producing comfortable footwear all the time. Still riding the wave of ethical thinking, Ove then bought a small farm, so that they could have their very own wool production. Slowly, but surely the small business blossomed into what is today known as glerups.
