We love to stay relevant and keep an eye on the modern ways of making footwear, but we also stay true to the traditional craftsmanship, as this combination of thinking provides a unique product from us every time. 

A wool blend of highest quality

If glerups were to have a theme song, it would surely be “It’s a kinda magic” by Queen. Because the wool blend we use for our footwear is as close to magic as you can come. The reason our footwear is so versatile is all due to the blend of wool from Danish Gotland sheep and wool from New Zealand. This mix has the natural benefit of keeping your feet cool, when it’s warm, but also letting them stay warm, when it’s cold. 

Furthermore, you do not have to worry about any unpleasant odour occurring, even when wearing them on a hot summer’s day, as the wool itself absorbs the odour, and releases it again, when you let the shoes rest outside in the fresh air for a bit. Another natural benefit is found in the molecular structure of the wool, which is close to the molecular structure of human skin, which means that even with bare feet in the slippers, you won’t experience skin irritation, as would be the case with slippers in other materials. On top of this, the softness of the wool is so incredibly comfortable that you will feel an immense amount of relaxation, as soon as you slip them on your feet. 

These slippers come in two different types – with a sole of leather and a sole of rubber. The leather sole is primarily for indoor activity, while the rubber sole can be worn outside as well, doing gardening, taking a walk in the woods or even just for sitting on your terrace. These slippers aren’t meant to last just a season – in fact, you can easily maintain them and enjoy them for a long time if you know how to keep them as good as new. When a hobby turns into so much more

It all started, when founder of glerups Nanny Glerup took a class in felting many years ago. She had an idea – she wanted to make a gift for her husband Ove, something he could use everyday and would remind him of her love for him. She decided on a pair of boot slippers in natural wool and presented the gift with pride to Ove. He was so excited about these slippers, both due to the functionality of them, but also the great feeling of comfort he felt when wearing them. Needless to say, Ove wore them everywhere he went, resulting in a lot of curiosity from friends, family and neighbours alike. Soon, Nanny began getting requests from the aforementioned and found herself spending many hours a day making slippers. This sparked an idea and she and Ove bought a small farm, with room enough for Nanny to have a real workshop and in time, also a few sheep of their own, making the cost of wool for the slippers significantly lower. Through hard work and dedication, glerups began to grow and Nanny registered the name as a company. With orders coming in from all over the country, then Europe and now, the world, glerups is a household name among Danish brands. And yet, it feels like the journey has just begun.
