Danish design

Originated in Denmark, glerups follows in the footsteps of Danish design giants like Lego, Arne Jacobsen and Hans Wegner – the common denominator being Danish design philosophy of keeping things simple, functional and elegant. This truly aligns with glerups way of thinking. Our slippers are made in simplistic design with a high level of functionality and a discreet elegance. We adhere to the traditional craftsmanship while staying in touch with the modern ways of producing and shipping our footwear in a way that is good for nature, animals and people, an approach that is truly a part of glerups DNA.

The colors of our slippers are inspired by Nordic nature and are kept in neutral tones, which also makes them fit easily into any wardrobe. There are many variations to choose from in our selection, so any type of man can find his perfect outdoor slipper in our store. The soles are made of rubber and can as such be used for both indoor and outdoor activities alike.

A wool blend like no other

One of the things that set glerups apart from other types of slippers, is the unique wool blend that we use. With a mix of wool from Danish Gotland sheep and wool from New Zealand, our slippers are outstanding when it comes to comfort. Not only does the wool have a natural softness, it has a lot of benefits when it comes to keeping your feet at a level of maximum comfort. You see, this wool blend has the ability to keep your feet warm on a cold day, but can also keep your feet cool on warmer days. This is due to the fibers of the wool, which allow the feet to breathe and keep the excess heat away from your skin. This creates a slipper that is versatile in usage, as it will be comfortable to wear no matter the outer circumstances. In addition to this, the fibers molecular structure is akin to that of human skin, which means your skin will not be irritated from wearing the slippers, as might be the case with slippers made from other materials. The fibers also absorb any bad odor that might occur and are as fresh as new when they are left outside in the fresh air for a while. These slippers aren’t meant to just last a season, but can be used for a long time, when taken good care of. For more on how to maintain your glerups slippers, read here.

A hobby that turned into a business

The story of how glerups started reads almost like a fairytale. Nanny Glerup wanted to try something new and learn a new skill, so she signed up for a class in making things out of felted wool. She became very fond of this new hobby and as a part of her class, she made her husband Ove a pair of woolen boot slippers as a gift. Ove was thrilled with the boots, not just because they were a gift from his loving wife, but also because they fit him so well that soon he would be seen wearing them everywhere he went. They stood out from what people wore on their feet at the time, so many of Oves' friends and family were curious to learn how he got them. In time, Nanny received requests for slippers from those close to them, and the word of the comfy footwear started spreading. After a while, the demand grew and Nanny and Ove decided to buy a small farm, with room for Nanny to have a workshop and an old stable building, which became the home for some sheep, so they could be self-sufficient, when it came to wool.

Nanny loved that her hobby was both meaningful and fruitful, and was happy to hear from everyone who got a pair of slippers, how much they enjoyed using them. She realized that this could be a business and started attending fairs and conferences with other amateur designers. The quality of her product and the simple aesthetics was soon recognized and Nanny realized that she needed to upgrade her business, when she had to turn down an order for 200 childrens boots from Sweden – simply because she didn’t have the capacity to meet this demand on time, much to her dismay. glerups as a company was registered and Nanny started hiring people to help her in her growing business. glerups kept growing and is now a worldwide renowned company with people from all over the world purchasing glerups slippers.
